Live photo galleries: choosing an FTP solution for your events

Live photo galleries: choosing an FTP solution for your events

Key takeaway

To deliver photographs during an event, choose a gallery that receives files from your camera over FTP and makes them available as they arrive in a clear client space. On Pelli, this transfer connects shooting to your gallery. Decide beforehand which images to send and who may view them.

📷 How can you deliver the first images before the event ends?

An organiser wants to publish the first pictures of a trade show before the morning ends. They need a few usable images, not necessarily your entire report. Agree on the priority moments: opening, visitor arrivals and the first conference.

That discussion determines the right process. You can prepare a selection for communications during the day, then deliver a more complete report after your usual work. Transfer addresses a timing constraint; your judgement still determines what the client receives.

Connect the camera to the right gallery

With a Pelli event gallery, you send images from an FTP-compatible camera. Prepare the destination gallery before arriving and check the connection with your own setup.

The camera, its settings and the network all contribute to the result. A camera without this transfer capability requires another upload method. Check its technical instructions rather than assuming that Wi-Fi alone is enough.

FTP credentials transfer your files. The gallery link lets the client view them. Keep these two kinds of access separate when preparing communications with the organiser and other people involved.

📶 Prepare connectivity and a fallback process

Ask your contact which connection will be available in the areas where you will photograph. A reliable connection at reception does not guarantee the same performance in the next room. Plan a trial under the conditions of your assignment.

Send a few representative files and watch them arrive on another device. This lets you check the destination, appearance and observed transfer time on that network. You can describe a realistic process without promising the same delay for every image.

If the connection deteriorates, keep your files and resume sending when conditions allow. Agree on a contact within the communications team: they should know where to retrieve images and how to reach you if a priority delivery is missing.

An example: the first pictures of a trade show

At nine, you photograph the opening and arriving visitors. Send your chosen pictures to a gallery prepared for the communications team. They find images organised by moment and know which ones they can use for their first update.

During a conference, you continue shooting. Your contact checks the gallery without requesting another individual transfer. During the break, review the published content and add useful images that were less urgent during the session.

This process keeps your editorial judgement at the centre of delivery. Agree with the client which images are ready to share and which need finishing before publication.

🔗 Make access easy to understand

On Pelli, you share the gallery by link or QR code. Choose protection settings for its recipients and explain what they can do: view, select or download. A gallery for the communications team may serve a different purpose from one intended for participants.

Add a short message with the event name and the nature of the delivery. Our guide to professional photo delivery develops the client side of this preparation.
